Setting up Neon Text
With Neon Text your customer types their text and picks a font instead of uploading a logo. Off by default.
Neon Logo starts from a file your customer uploads. Neon Text starts from an empty text box: your customer types their text, picks a font, a colour and a size, and sees straight away what it will be.
That is a very different customer. Someone with a logo knows what they want; someone who wants “OPEN” or a first name in neon has no file and would otherwise drop out.
Off by default. You choose the fonts, the widths, the size buttons and the colours yourself in the portal. Switching it on, the welcome text and the link to Neon Logo you do not.
You cannot set this yourself in the portal at the moment. Get in touch with us if you want it set differently.
Neon Text is listed as a product of its own under My software, with its own code on its own Use it tab. See Adding Neon Studio to your site.
Where you set it
Open Neon Text under My software, go to the Settings tab and open the What your visitor may do section. That is where the Text designer block is, only for Neon Text. You save with Save your visitor’s choices.
Fonts
Under Fonts in the designer you choose which letters your visitor can pick in the text designer, at most 200. If you choose none, they may pick from all available fonts.
A short list works better in practice. Twenty fonts give you customers who keep switching endlessly; six well-chosen letters give you orders. Also pick letters you know can be bent in glass — a hairline script font looks gorgeous on screen and is a disaster in tube.
Colours
Under Colours in the text designer you tick which colours your visitor can pick in Neon Text. Tick nothing and they get the full palette from your colours.
Sizes
Size buttons
Without sizes of your own, there are four buttons:
| Button | Width |
|---|---|
| S | 50 cm |
| M | 75 cm |
| L | 100 cm |
| XL | 150 cm |
Under Size buttons you set your own sizes: a name and a width in cm per button. Add a size adds one, up to at most 6.
Minimum and maximum width
30 to 250 cm by default. Within that, your customer can slide freely. You set the limits yourself under Smallest width (cm) and Largest width (cm).
The system limits are 20 and 400 cm: narrower cannot be made, wider does not fit in transport and production. A value outside that range is moved back to the nearest limit.
The size buttons always stay within the minimum and maximum. If the maximum is 120 cm, the XL button moves down with it — so there can never be a button that sets a size you do not supply.
Welcome text
Up to 300 characters, visible when your customer opens Neon Text. Without a text of your own, a tidy default text is shown.
A good welcome text tells what happens: “Type your text, pick your letter and your colour. You see the price straight away. Unsure about the size? Pick one of the buttons — those are our best-selling formats.”
Linking between Neon Text and Neon Logo
This is on by default, as soon as Neon Text is on. There is a small link in Neon Text to Neon Logo and the other way round, so a visitor who starts in the wrong place does not get stuck.
Someone who starts with text but actually has a logo does not have to go back to your menu. Switching it off only makes sense if you deliberately want a single entrance.
What stays the same after a text design
Everything. A design from Neon Text is an ordinary design for the rest of the system: the same price build-up, the same extras and lead times, the same statuses under Orders & quotes, the same output formats, the same share links and reorders.
A setting that can apply to both, such as your prices, has a tick box in the portal to apply it to both Neon Logo and Neon Text. Tick it and you only set it once.
One thing does count separately: what you pay us. Downloads from Neon Text count in their own tier, separate from Neon Logo — see the pricing.
